The Boston Options Exchange Adopts 'Make or Take' Pricing Model
The Boston Options Exchange (BOX) announced today that it will implement the ‘make or take’ transaction fee pricing model for classes included in the penny pilot, subject to SEC approval. BOX’s ‘make or take’ pricing structure will reward its participants by compensating them

BOX Receives Regulatory Approval To Accept Orders In Pennies For All Options Series
BOX, the first options exchange to trade in pennies, received SEC approval on August 2, 2007 for the launch of its Auto Auction Order ("AAO") which will allow all Public Customer acccounts to send orders to BOX in pennies even if the option series is not part of the Penny Pilot. When a limit order denominated in pennies for a non-penny series is recieved by BOX, the order will be rounded to the nearest valid trading tick (rounded down if a buy order and up if a sell order) and booked on the BOX electronic central limit order book at the rounded price. However, whenever a price improvement auction is initiated for the series, the AAO will participate in penny increments automatically.
BOX expects to make this new order type available to BOX Participants on the BOX trading system in the second half of September, 2007.

BOX Sees Best Week On Record
With an average daily volume of 882,400 contracts executed and a market share of 6.7% in classes traded, BOX reported the week of July 23 through 27, 2007 as its best in its history in terms of volume. The week also witnessed another major accomplishment on Thursday July 26 when BOX broke for the first time the 1 million mark in terms of daily contracts executed. These increases in volume and market share reflect increased confidence on BOX's new and revamped trading platform.

On July 26, 2007, BOX traded 1,223,666 contracts, setting a new historic high and breaking the 1 million mark for first time in its history. 38,410 QQQ contracts were trade yesterday on BOX, a new BOX record for most contracts traded in a single session on a single option class. BOX QQQ market share for the day was 10.8%, also a record for BOX on the QQQs. The most recent data available show that the BOX market for QQQs is "stand alone" best price roughly 7% of the time with a "matching NBBO" percentage of 88% for a total "equal NBBO" rate of over 95%.

Starting Monday, September 27, BOX will commence rolling out trading in an additional 100 options classes. The rollout will be spread over a four week period with roughly 25 classes going into production each Monday morning. New Market Maker Appointments on BOX
Over the next three weeks, BOX will add nearly 600 new market maker appointments on the existing 249 options classes. The new appointments have been assigned to both the existing 27 BOX Participants which presently act as market makers on BOX plus an additional ten new Participants who are in the process of meeting the requirements to act as BOX Market Makers. These new appointments represent an increase in BOX quoting capacity of roughly 20%.

BOX Celebrates Six Month Anniversary with Record Trading Volume on QQQs, Second Busiest Trading Session
- Six Months of Trading: Today was the six month anniversary of the opening of trading on BOX. BOX initially listed six options classes on the morning of Friday, February 6, 2004; a total of 4,433 contracts were traded that day. Six months later, BOX lists 248 options classes and has traded a cumulative total of 6,836,877 contracts, averaging roughly 100,000 contracts per day over the past few weeks.
- New Records: 37,215 QQQs contracts were traded today on BOX, a new volume record for trading on a single class in a single session. The volume included a PIP for 5,000 contracts and four PIPs for 1,000 contracts each. 125,767 contracts were traded today, the second most active session in BOX's history.
